THE PRESIDENT'S GREETING

 Esteemed colleagues,

I am pleased to address my gratitude as your chosen president of the L’Associació Comerciants Creu Coberta (Association of Shopkeepers and Neighbors of Creu Coberta—nearby Plaça de España in Barcelona) and I hope to perform my duty with a confident and responsible manner.

My first objective is to meet with each of you personally to familiarize myself with any concern you may have.

I do believe that your inputs in the decisions we make are important; your feedback on what can be improved are welcomed. Most essentially to keep in mind, we strive to maintain the dignity and importance of “Creu Coberta” and our image in relation to other commercial zones.

Sincerely,

 Lluís Llanas i Rigol

President of L’Associació Comerciants Creu Coberta (Association of Shopkeepers and Neighbors of Creu Coberta)

THE COMMERCIAL AREA "CREU COBERTA" AS IT USED TO BE

For years, Hostafancs, a small neighborhood played an important and proud role as a frontier and dynamic area in Barcelona that was constantly expanding. In the beginning stages of “hostal franc (free hostel),” the area opened their doors to an entrepreneur and the textile plant impressively named “The Industrial Spain” to settle in this area. As time surpassed, the city evolved and transitioned the outskirts to the center of “Hostafrancs” into a new Barcelona.

The locals of “Hostafrancs de Sio” were the first to carry out commercial change in an an area that was to become the longest commercial street in Europe, “La Creu Coberta,” specializing in traditional mom-and-pop shops with prestigious brands and customer service.

THE COMMERCIAL AREA "CREU COBERTA" TODAY

The important and well-known street of Creu Coberta in Barcelona joined with Sants (another nearby commercial area) to form together the longest commercial street in Europe. Along the 4 km from “Plaça d’España” to Collblanc highway are more than 650 shops, numerous restaurants and several convenient stores. This includes local markets with a wide variety of fresh food. Also located within the area is the head district office, banks, libraries, public centers and other services.

The area is formed by the association of shopkeepers from Creu Coberta and Sants Establishments. Each are aware of their individual actions in order to make commerce more dynamic, but as a whole we understand the importance to carry this out together.

SANTS-CREU COBERTA, A COMMERCIAL AREA

This is a dynamic shopping area with plenty of services to offer its Mediterranean citizens, visitors and tourists. The shops specialize in gifts, international and local handcrafts, fashion (perfume, jewelry, beauty, fine leather goods), home décor, toys, photography, banks, office supplies, hardware, electronics, vision and optical eye-care, pets, food and much more.

LOCATION

Our location is conveniently situated. Creu Coberta is located off of Plaça de España, a historical landmark easy to find because of it’s popularity in international exhibitions and hosting at least 50 major events per year. To and from the area are 18 bus lines, 3 metro lines, train (including the one to and from the airport), TGV (fast train), and 7 parking areas for private transportation. It is the first stop from the airport’s blue bus line. Very soon, the area will become one of the top stops for Barcelona’s tourist bus.
